The Shining Stars From Our Culinary Team

Our culinary champions participated in the Great Indian Culinary Challenge (GICC) last week. GICC is the Industry's professional food preparation competition, providing a platform where culinary professionals across India can display their individual and collective skills, learn, share experiences, partner and network. Over 25 hotels from across the country had participated in the challenge including the talented culinary team from The Westin Mumbai Garden City. We were delighted to win 5 awards in different categories out of a total of 10 entrants.
Sameer from Seasonal Tastes won a Silver medal in the plated appetizers
Rajesh from Garde Manger won a Bronze in plated starters
Jenson from Pastry won the best plated Indian dessert
Sudhir won a bronze in plated main course
Sagar won a silver in plated appetizers

Our culinary hero’s have made us proud and we look forward to tasting new treats from them in the year ahead.

Starwood Cares for the Community

We at Starwood believe in a totally integrative approach towards service excellence by synthesizing organizational strategies with business operations, guests and associate satisfaction. This extends out to the Community which was evident from the initiative to contribute towards the Harmony for Silvers Foundation as part of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2012.
The dawn of 15th January 2012 saw the spirit of Mumbai awaken with zest to participate in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon. Year on year this annual event has been increasing in popularity and 2012 was no different. Our team from The Westin Mumbai Garden City were there to support the Harmony for Silvers Foundation looking after the senior citizens of the city. The contribution of refreshments from our culinary team at The Westin Mumbai were well received after our Senior Citizens with full enthusiasm and all their energy returned from the marathon. Bollywood stars Anil Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Mahima Chaudhary and Tina Ambani showed their support by their presence and participation. One lucky winner from the marathon participants was fortunate to win a Bubbalicious Brunch for two as Seasonal Tastes. Our senior citizens left feeling revived and gave us all encouragement to strive to be at our best, stay healthy, stay fit and be able to match their zest for life.

Be healthy, live healthy, work healthy

The key to a good life is inter-twining these three facets – be healthy, live healthy, work healthy. To encourage our associates to reach that balance, the team at The Westin Mumbai Garden City participated in a brand lead Associate Enrichment program. It is designed to bring the brand mission to life by extending the benefits from our guest experience programs to our associates, inspiring them to make healthy choices.  The program is intended to be ongoing in order to drive a shift in property culture, one that emphasizes on associate and guest well being on property. The three initiatives within this program include SuperFoods, WestinWORKOUT and Purify.
WestinWORKOUT - The most recent initiative in this program to kick start the new year was conducted on 3rd January 2012 with a ‘Run Westin & Yoga’ session. Our enthusiastic associates came into work early at 7am to jumpstart their day with a run and stretching exercises. The remaining associates were welcomed to work in style with a refreshing snack to start their day and invited to write their new year’s resolutions on the ‘wall of fame’. A guided yoga session was conducted by a qualified instructor where associates participated in a session of back exercises, breathing and meditation. The session was a refreshing break and associates look forward to many more rejuvenating sessions.
Superfoods – The afternoon meal consisted of a nutritious spread, incorporating Superfoods items. These items are health enhancing and rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients. They contain an exceptionally high nutrient content when compared to the amount of calories per serving. These delectable treats were thoroughly enjoyed by our associates.
Purify - Air humidifiers and detoxification plants have been placed in Heart of House (HOH) areas to ensure the air is clean and pure. Additionally, scent machines and diffusers have been placed in HOH for fresh smelling air. Initiatives such as ‘no smoking day’ and ‘no waste’ were included as part of an on-going drive to inspire associates to make smart choices and be at their best.

Welcoming 2012 The Westin Way


The New Year was brought in true style at The Westin Mumbai Garden City. With all three venues sold out to maximum capacity, our guests came in raring to go to bring in 2012 with their family, friends and loved ones.

Serenewty 2012 - Prego was transformed into a Buddha Bar theme with DJ Gary pumping rhythmic beats through the night setting all our guests moving on the dance floor. Chef Rossano Renzelli added flavour to the party with his magically crafted menu with Calamari Fritti, Parma Ham Wrapped Grissini, Stuffed Squid with Risotto and a Seafood Bar and tempting dessert to top it all with Chocolate-Filled Kisses (Baci), Amaretto Truffles and Pandoro.

Daawat-E-Khaas - Kangan guests were given a warm welcome with live contemporary Indian music playing in the background, enabling them to savour their favourite Indian delicacies over a family filled atmosphere on the 18th floor with a panoramic view of Mumbai city. The aromas of an authentic Indian menu crafted by Master Chef Ajay Chopra filled the air ensuring your last dinner of the year was one to remember, with a choice of Kaffir Lime Scented Arabian Sea Prawns with Pineapple Chutney, Paneer Gulakand Tikka, Malabari Lobster Tails with Carrot Upma and Moilee Sauce and creative desserts with Chocolate Rasmalai Cheese Cake and Gajar Halwa Spring Rolls with Gulab Ice Cream.  

The Super Spread Dinner - Seasonal Tastes offered a lavish spread with over 200 choices with live stations of Mexican, Asian, Indian and local favorites offering an array of culinary treats to suit everyone’s palette. The buffet offered an endless mezze, noodle and dessert bars clubbed with zippy beverages. The temptations include Honey Glazed Duck with Apricot and Wine Braised Cabbage, Baby Back Ribs in Smoky BBQ Sauce, Meen Moilee, Silk Tofu with Black Mushroom, Ginger Sauce and Hand-made Indian Sweets.
